My Music Journey

My journey with music started quite unexpectedly in 2024. Until then, music was something I simply listened to whenever I felt tired from work. I enjoyed songs, but I had never seriously thought about singing myself.
Everything changed when I installed the Smule app out of curiosity. I wanted to know how my voice would sound if I tried singing. Growing up, I always admired people singing in reality shows and at functions, and I often found myself drawn to the rhythm of certain songs. I especially enjoyed listening to artists like Yesudas and K. S. Chithra, and from Bollywood, singers like Arijit Singh and Armaan Malik.
After installing Smule, I recorded a few songs and shared them with my sister, and later with my parents. Since I was a beginner, their encouragement meant a lot to me. Their support became the inspiration that pushed me to continue exploring music, and that is where my music journey truly began.
Over time, I realized that I genuinely enjoy singing, and more importantly, I started to appreciate my own voice. For any journey of learning, a consistent push is necessary to improve. To keep myself motivated and disciplined, I decided to share my singing on social media. My main goal was not just to share music, but to receive feedback and understand what I could improve.
Fortunately, some of my close friends and family members have been supportive by giving honest feedback about what works and what needs improvement. One important realization I had during this journey is that being able to recognize our own mistakes in singing is actually a sign of progress.
As I explored music more deeply, I discovered that Carnatic music forms the foundation of much of South Indian music. This realization encouraged me to start learning Carnatic music as well. Since I balance this with my professional work, I dedicate most of my learning time to weekends.
To develop a clearer understanding of musical notes and structure, I also decided to learn a musical instrument. I chose the keyboard, as it helps visualize and understand musical notes more clearly.
This journey is still ongoing, and I continue to learn, improve, and enjoy every step along the way.
